Acquiring a career in the public safety field is challenging. On average, a law enforcement agency will process one hundred applicants to hire one officer. Disqualifications for law enforcement include:
  • Hard drug use (ecstasy, LSD, etc)
  • Acts of domestic violence
  • Assault convictions
  • Sales of controlled substances
  • Gang participation & affiliation
  • Integrity issues
  • A history of poor employability skills
  • Weapons violations
  • DUI convictions & related driving violations
  • Restraining Orders
  • and this is just to name a few...

Most student's in high school today do  not fully understand how their actions today can have a long term effect on their career goals in this profession. I believe that those students enrolled in these courses not only have to learn the academics of our profession, but we need to teach and instill in them those traits that will make them better candidates in the future.

I believe that we need to do more to groom our youth and prepare them for their chosen profession.
